A Press Check for Jason Hudson
I found Jason Hudson just a little over a year ago. It was love at first site and since then, between snarky tweets and a handful or two of emails he's become someone I can call a friend. Jason recently quit his nine-to-five job to be a full-time photographer and he asked me to design his business cards. I was thrilled. Together we decided that he needed something super classy and subtle, traditional yet modern. Through much deliberation, sketching and estimating we landed on a blind deboss execution with ultra thin letterpressed contact information on the sexiest paper ever.
This morning I went to see these babies on the press. I carefully examined the ink, placement and impression. I shot the shit with my pressman as he made the necessary adjustments to get the cards just right. And when he gave me the final sheet to sign-off on I was elated. I was over the moon about his cards turning out just how I imagined. But I was even more excited for Jason and his new adventure - and that I get to be a tiny little part of it.

WOW!!! These are crazy awesome. I'm currently having my husband's stationery re-"designed" and they could use some jazz. Think something like that is too cool for a stiff-suited attorney??

Kathleen! The cards are incredible- how are the plates made? Do they stay with the printer or is it given back to Jason to sit on his mantle for all time?

OurAugust - I'm not exactly sure how the plates are made. I'm sending these to Jason for a keepsake (but they also come in handy if he needs more cards printed up in the future).
Hi Kathleen (other comment posted too quickly, sorry about that!) I'm reading your blog backwards, and I'm loving it! You and Jeremy are just a few steps ahead of me and my husband, so it's inspiring to see a couple living a life similar to what we are establishing!

That article is interesting! I think good typography can happen with almost any typeface. The standards like Arial & Times aren't bad - a good typographer should be able to "make it work". :)

Where do you get press lettering as such printed/embossing done? Do you go online or have them done locally?
Jennie Bee - I use a local printer called Fine Arts for letterpress. I like supporting my local economy & it's nice to be able to pop in for a press-check.
