Run as fast as you can.

Apocalypto

Have you guys ever seen the movie Apocalypto? This movie is about a man named Jaguar Paw - he's captured by the Mayan kingdom and just as he is being offered for sacrifice he escapes and the rest of the movie follows him running around in the woods for days and days.

When I finally got around to watching Apocalypto, about two years ago, I became obsessed. I couldn't get Jaguar Paw out of my mind. And now I think about him every single time I go for a run. Let me clarify - I don't just think about him - I become him. My sunny park becomes a dark, dense forest. Stay-at-home moms, pushing sweet babies in strollers, transform into evil Mayan rulers trying to hunt me down. My 3-mile route stretches out over endless nights and days of running as fast as I can.

And my new Vibram FiveFingers are definitely helping to fulfill this fantasy.

Yay, you got them! Prepare to be sore in places you never knew you had. Also, prepare for huge, defined calves.

Wow, I never knew anyone, who really used them... I can't believe that they are comfortable... Are they :)?!

Nice stems!

Hmmm, my interest has been piqued. I will probably have to give them a whirl.

hubs & I have been jonesing for some for over a year now, so this past weekend we decided to take the plunge in honor of my birthday next weekend (makes sense, right?)

we went to 3 different places and could not find our size and/or a style that would work for us - every place is saying they are backordered up to 15 weeks!

where, oh where did you find yours?

I've been dieing to hear a review on these shoes, I guess they're considered shoes. Do you love them?

Ashlae - Oh, man - since starting P90X not a day has gone by where I haven't been sore somewhere. I'm excited!

FeeMail - They're really comfy. I like them.

JoL - I found them at MetroShoe Warehouse in OKC. You'll definitely want to try them on in person. I have high-arches so the sales rep suggested I get the Bikila LS model. I really wanted black but they only had grey in my size so I went ahead and got them.

Rolerkite - I do love them! I took them for a spin today and after two miles had a blister on the bottom of my big toes. I know there is a break-in period though. I'm looking forward to trying them out on hikes.

Can't wait to read updates on how you like them!

There are socks made with individual toe slots just for wearing with Vibrams (if you continue having issues with blisters).

I've been thinking about the black/gold/silver Komodo Sport model for running but my vanity is standing in my way so far (it was recommended I go one size up since I have extra long monkey toes and the bigger size makes my feet look gigantic). Yours look cute though!

Amanda - Yeah, I might invest in a few pairs of socks - I'll see if my feet are able to adjust over the next few weeks.

You should get them! But maybe getting grey (or another lighter color) will make them look not quite as large on feet...

I just want to talk about how awesome Apocalypto is. Everyone should watch it and then go get shoes.

Love, love, love that movie! It was underrated and definitely is the type of movie that stays on your mind for a while. Though I am still a little weirded out by the shoes- you can really where those when running on asphalt?

dangit, posted under my husbands email again! we really need a second mac. sorry! -kat

i am super interested to see how you like these. my best friend was running in them for a bit (she's a marathon runner)and she got TERRIBLE shin splints. my husband has a pair, though, and he likes them but doesn't LOVE them. people rave about these things, so i'm curious to see if you have better luck than my two folks.

Kat - I was excited - I thought I had another guy reader! Ha! But yes, I love Apocalytpo.

You can run on asphalt but since it was my first time to run in them I decided to run in the grass & dirt next to the street for a little more cushion.

Lauren / Naurnie - I only ran 2 miles in these yesterday before I got a blister on my big toe. However, I didn't experience any knee pain which was kind of amazing (I usually get a little tweak around mile 2). I think more than anything I like how they make me feel - like Jaguar Paw.

I'll definitely let you know how I like them after a couple months.

i love that you think of me every day.

xoxo!

I've been running in the Classics for 1.5 years now. I wore through the soles on my first pair while training for a 1/2 in Philly. Love'em and won't run in anything else.
