Lunch
I love going home for lunch. I don't do it often - but I'm lucky enough to live 6 minutes from work to enjoy a nice mid-day break, on occasion.
It feels especially odd to cook on the stove at lunch. Today I made fried eggs, spinach and goat cheese on semolina batard toast. This is my go-to lunch.
On a related note, I've decided after our successful try at home-made pizza dough I'm going to start baking my own bread from scratch. If you have any bread recipes send them my way!
And on another food-related note - I just finished reading Michael Pollan's In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto. It was certainly an interesting read and I would recommend it to anyone who cares about food, food culture and what we eat.

Marta from Marta Writes has a great Classic White Bread recipe. Definitely easy and delicious! http://martawrites.blogspot.com/2009/04/i-bake-bread.html
I have the EASIEST recipe for beer bread... I got it from a fellow blogger! :)
3 c. self-rising flour
1/2 c. sugar
12oz. beer (any type but 'light' beer... I use budweiser or coors original... Shiner works well, too!)
Combine ingredients and bake in a loaf pan @350 for 45 minutes. Pour melted butter on top of bread and place back in oven for 10-15 more minutes... then enjoy!
vegetarians eat eggs? Do only vegans not eat eggs?
AMG - Yeah, I'm actually a lacto-ovo pescatarian. That means I eat eggs, dairy and fish.
Some vegetarians don't eat eggs. Vegans don't eat eggs, dairy or any animal byproducts like whey or gelatin. The typically don't wear leather or fur either - and we all know how much I love dead things.
Ahhh. Okies.
That sounds easier and healthier than ... you know... no eggs and such. So if you do it that way, I would expect that means that you don't need to take supplements such as B12 etc...?
AMG - yeah... I'm not sure how much healthier it is - but in the context of what I eat it is definitely a good source of protein and B12 and other eggy goodness. Jeremy stays away from them because he has high cholestoral.
We both do take a daily B-complex vitamin though. Because we're freaks like that.
yum! that makes my lunch sandwich look sad & tragic.
You should check out this blog: http://oklavore.com/
She has several pizza posts, and I think she shared her dough recipe once. It is a great blog for all things local food.
Chelseyann - Thanks so much for the link!
In Defense of Food is one of the best books i've read in the last couple of years. i loved it. and it makes so much sense.
If you don't have Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day, get it. There's a Healthy Bread in 5 Minutes a Day book now, as well, but I haven't gotten as far into that one yet. Their no-knead method lets us have fresh bread on the table every day, no matter how much we might be working.
And now I want a slice, but really don't need it....
Kate - thank you for the recommendation! I just made some more pizza dough and am ready to bake my own bread. I'm adding those books to my wishlist.
