Liz's First Home: Vignettes

This set up is Liz's second bedroom. When she first moved in she was thinking it would be more of an office/guest bedroom but now it's turned into the place where her other living room furniture lives - making it a nice little lounge. She moved her desk into the living room.
This is one of the things I love about Liz's approach to interior design. She's willing to arrange and rearrange until her furnishings are aesthetically pleasing to the eye AND to functional to her lifestyle.
This picture is also an example of how Liz can create these perfect little vignettes in her home without it feeling cluttered. I think the trick is a limited color palette and little pops of precious things here and there - not on every single surface. So while it's really nice to have a room dedicated to being an office what's the point if you never use it?
Liz has started stealing her parent's cool stuff from back in the day, like this clock - hoping they won't notice. I wonder if they read this blog...
But some stuff she's given. Like vintage jewelry handed down from the women in her family. Her collection makes me want to get rid of all of my jewelry that isn't metal or white.
Now I'm going to go home and throw more stuff away.

Ive seen other people turn spare bedroom into "tv rooms" or "dens" before and have the living room as a work space and i think its genius. at my last place i had an office that was never used so it slowly turned into crap storage room. Ive also seen dining rooms turned into offices. I say do what works. Love it.
I agree with all of this. Our "office" or "craft room" had good intentions, but it just turned into storage, like Angela said. So I turned my dining room into my sewing/craft room, and I'm kind of obsessed with it. When I'm not at my desk, I just stare at it longingly, wondering how I lived here for 2 and a half years without it. And for some reason, we eat every meal at the dining room now, too. Like it needed it's space to be shared to be appreciated. As I've started to realize these things, I've also accepted that I will probably live in a small house the rest of my life, because it's the only thing that's cozy to me.
