Guest Bedroom: Almost done!

I was feeling a little reserved about our guest bedroom creeping into the shabby chic territory until I saw this post featuring shabby chic queen, rachel ashwell, at sfgirlbybay. It gave me confidence that I can rock a little bit of quaintness in my mostly mid-century modern aesthetic.

I repurposed some wedding decorations to hang above the bed. Let me tell you - it really took my college degree in art/design to make this cluster look good from all angles.

I wanted to get an antique lamp for this room. My mom gave me this one - which used to belong to her parents. We've had this lamp for as long as I can remember. I also wanted to get a little bit of life into this room - I thought the plant was a nice touch.

So that's it for now. I promise I won't do any more guest bedroom posts until the other side is done - which will be any day now!

so cozy that even the cats hang out in the room!! so perfect : )

Looks like the kittehs think they just scored a new bedroom all their own! lol.

Anyway, I have a weakness for shabby chic but i've always had a hard time incorperating bits of it into my place as well.

I think you pulled it off really well with being so minimal about it and not as clutterbug. Looks very nice!

It must be well done because it seems like the cats approve :)

Lanterns make it more "chic" and less "shabby" = good balance.

Kittys won't stay in there once the drums come in, will they?

I looks great! Good job!

kat - this is a beautiful post - i especially love the photography of bed metal frame close-up shot!!! those patch-word bed cover is so homey and cozy!!! happy happy renovation, xx

Where did you find that iron bed frame? I've been wanting one. Also, my mother gave me a quilt that looks really similar to that one!

it looks gorgeous! and definitely not too shabby chic. you did a fantastic job, kathleen!

I love this! I'm trying to figure out what to do with our guestroom (I also have an iron frame, which was perfect in my super old Geneva apartment but I'm having a hard time fitting into the house).

You have given me hope I can make it work, now if only I can pull it off as well as you do, wanna come over and do my place?

LOVE the baloon idea! Well done! Have a happy & safe holiday season! Cheers, Julie
